Watercolor on paper
Fine Arts
Congested City is rendered to illustrate the state of informal urban settlers. The painting shows the barung-barong or makeshift houses erected along the riverbanks.
This artwork was awarded the first prize in the first ever Shell National Students Art Competition in 1951. The artist, Nicolas Villanueva, was barely 18 years old at the time.
