The exhibition features twenty-three paintings from the BPI collection, originally in the estate of Grace Luna, wife of Andres Luna de San Pedro y Tavera, son of Juan Luna.
Best known for historic and historical paintings like the Spoliarium and Blood Compact, the works of Juan Luna are seen as expressions of the coming of age of the Filipino and the birth of the Philippines as a nation in the late 19th century. The exhibition, which runs until August 31, 2008, highlights Luna’s overlooked works as well as studies and small works that were not meant for public display but show the artist’s private side and reveal his creative process.
Professor Ambeth R. Ocampo is the Chairman of the National Historical Institute and was recently conferred the Officier in the Order of Arts and Letters from the Republic of France.
