During this 2 day workshop we will be exploring how photography can become of powerful narrative tool through the form of the classic photo essay. Looking back at the origins of the first documentary photographs we will study the work of W. Eugene Smith and his work for Life Magazine.

Using this working knowledge of the photo essay participants will be given a chance to work on their own image sets by embedding at several locations around Makati. The objective is to give participants a taste of what the challenges are of shooting a short photo essay.

The second day will be dedicated to the discipline of editing. Participants will be asked bring in prints of their work from the previous day’s shoot and we will go through the selection process that leads to a photo essay.

Participants will need:

  • A digital camera – DSLR, Mirrorless or point and shoot
  • Basic photographic knowledge
  • Access to a computer
  • Participants will be asked to print some of their work.

Fees, terms and conditions:

Php 4,800 Regular Fee
Php 4,320 Discounted rate for Ayala Museum Members and Ayala Group of Companies Employees

Fees are inclusive of materials, handouts, snacks, one day free access to the Ayala Museum and Filipinas Heritage Library.

  • Early Bird Enrollment
    • Register and pay either the reservation fee (30% of full rate: Php 1,440) or in full with 5% early bird discount (Php 4,560) on or before Sunday, October 1, 2017 
    • For those who choose the former, 70% balance must be paid on the day of the workshop.
    • 5% early bird discount does not apply to Ayala Museum Members and AGC Employees
  • Late Enrollment
    • Registration after Sunday, October 1, 2017 is subject to availability of slots. Kindly inquire with our Education department for available slots. Only full payments (Php 4,800 regular, Php 4,320 Member/AGC rate) will be accepted during this time (Note: Museum is closed on Mondays).
