TALK | Conversations in Art

Eduardo Castrillo

Curatorial talk and personal stories
with Jeannie E. Javelosa, guest curator

27 May 2017 | 3 – 5 PM
Ayala Museum

The exhibition curator Jeannie E. Javelosa shares with us accounts on Eduardo Castrillo–the man, the artist, his major works, the stories behind them, and his key innovations and shifts, not just in artistic styles but in our common history.

This talk is held in line with the ongoing exhibition, Eduardo Castrillo: A Prism of Art & Friendships.

About the Exhibition

The show brings focus on the prolific and eventful life of one of the leading artists in the field of sculpture. When he first burst into the Philippine contemporary art scene in 1966, his highly colorful life, his progressive and radical art, and his social-political stand for humanistic values made him a leader, a visionary, and a rebel.

The name Eduardo Castrillo is synonymous with metal sculpture, having produced figurative, historical, and religious monuments, and abstract environmental works, not only in the Philippines but also in other countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam in Southeast Asia; Switzerland, the Vatican, and Poland in Europe; Guam, North America, and Australia. In the Philippines, Castrilloalone managed to present imposing monuments that tell the story of the courage, heroism, and aspirations of the best of our race.

Eduardo Castrillo: A Prism of Art & Friendships is the third of a series that serves to honor Castrillo’s artistic legacy, as well as the friendships he developed through the years. Lent by the artist’s friends, the objects on display embody facets of the prism that was the sculptor’s life and were chosen to give a representation of the various styles and forms he created in his lifetime.
