Dr. Shoichi Hirai, curator at The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto will discuss “What is Gutai,” how the Japanese postwar art group was formed, its leader Jiro Yoshihara and members.
The lecture will also examine how the group viewed and created art, how the work was perceived and appreciated during their active years (1954-1972).
This program will be followed by the official launch of the exhibition catalogue.
