International Museum Day 2015
Museums for a Sustainable Society

FREE MUSEUM ADMISSION | SPECIAL ART STATIONS AND DEMONSTRATIONS | LOCAL FAIR

17 May 2015 | 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) has determined the 2015 International Museum Day theme as “Museums for a Sustainable Society” to highlight the role of museums in raising public awareness about the need for a society that is less wasteful, more cooperative and that uses resources in a way that respects living systems. ICOM President, Prof. Dr Hans-Martin Hinz, adds: “Museums, as educators and cultural mediators… must be able to guarantee their role in safeguarding cultural heritage, given the increasing precariousness of ecosystems, situations of political instability, and the associated natural and man-made challenges that may arise.”
In keeping with this idea, Ayala Museum, apart from offering free admission, will have special booths and activities highlighting the culture of Philippine indigenous groups and businesses that source local materials and preserve traditional practices.
